Legal/Ethical Issues
Legal issues means an issue arising from the law. Ethical issues means a topic that needs either one person or an organisation to decide the alternatives that should be observed as right (ethical) or wrong (unethical).
Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, Working Title Films and also Universal Studios own the rights to the film, DVD, Blu-ray and script. Illegal downloads are being done with any film and Hot Fuzz is not an exception which means that Working Title and the Writers (Pegg and Wright) could lose a good amount of profit because people are not watching it on cinemas nor buying the DVD’s or the Blu-ray. In addition it is also a crime to download illegally so therefore it is advised not to do it.
In the film Hot Fuzz, it displays quite a number of ethical issues such as: the language used, the violence, and also some of the stereotypes that we know has also been included in the film which they did a bit of the comedy in the film to work more effectively but on the other hand it also must of have offended people.
The language used was quite strong including words that could make the film classified as 18 however because of the way they used it, helped Hot Fuzz into the 15 classification instead. The violence and the special effects was disturbing and hard to look at with all the fake blood and so on. Some of the stereotypes that they used were like police officers normally eating, the young people in hoodies, the West Country accents/farmers and also the country small town.
The police officers can be known to be eating snacks most of the time in their vehicles however this can be offensive particularly to police officers themselves because it gives them a ‘piggy image’ and it also seems disrespectful and ungrateful since their job is to protect the public. The young people in hoodies are normally known to be mischievous, troublemakers and nearly any other negative conations can describe them. The accents that some of the characters used must have offended some of the audience especially people who might have a similar accent or people that do have the accent may feel upset about the possible exaggeration they have done but it also could of also made many people laugh. Lastly, the small country town could have offended the public which are residents from a similar town or they might feel as if other people are judging them for being a small place that has no class however for other people (mostly the ones that live in a city), it was easier for them to have an idea of where the film is located since they only will know what a country town looks like with that description.
